"Obituary From The Brodhead Independent
January 14, 1892
In 1872 Mr. Thompson died leaving her a widow with eight children. Five years later, June 17, 1877, she was united in marriage with Mr. David Randall, of Brodhead; after nearly five years of happy wedded life she was again left a widow, Mr. Randall's death occurring March 17, 1882.
Her remaining years were spent with her children, some of whom had settled in Iowa, and some living in Wisconsin. Last summer she visited her daughters, Mrs. E. McNair, of this city, and Mrs. Wm. Hall of Decatur, spending some weeks with them, but she was then in very feeble health. She returned to her son's, Mr. Frank Thompson, in Waverly, Iowa, and at that place she passed to the better home above on January 4th, 1892, aged 61 years. She leaves eight children to mourn her departure. Sympathy for them is felt by a wide circle of friends, and is in place, but not for her. She lived well and so was able to die well. For many years she had been a consistent member of the Baptist church; her life had been consecrated to the cause of Christ and her going was but a going to her reward.
About a fortnight before her death, her daughter Mrs. E. McNair was summoned to her bedside and remained with her to the end. Her remains were brought to Brodhead for burial in Greenwood Cemetery, and appropriate burial services were held in the Baptist church on Thursday, Jan. 7th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. K. Lewis. Despite the inclemency of the weather the church was filled with mourning friends and relatives, and a large number followed to her last resting place in the city of the death, one whom they had known only to love and esteem. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord"."
